Do you feel like no matter what you do for your hair that you can't get it to look like the satiny-smooth hair in magazines? Are you constantly searching the drug store shelves for the latest and greatest products in an effort to improve the state of your tresses? Well you can save your money and clear out the space under your bathroom sinks if you follow these few tips.

1. Brush your hair before you get into the shower...this will help to get out any knots that may be present and avoid causing breakage of the hair shaft. Knots are the arch enemy of healthy hair. They can lead to micro damage of the hair shaft and ultimately, the dreaded split ends. Start brushing from the ends of the hair and slowly work your way up to the top . After your shower, always use a wide toothed comb on wet hair, never a brush.
2. Ditch the terry cloth towel in favor of a cotton t-shirt to dry hair after the shower. Terry cloth towels can cause friction which can lead to frizz and breakage of the hair. A soft cotton t-shirt is just the right tool for the job. And please, for the love of all that is holy, don't rub the t-shirt all over your head to dry the hair. Squeeze hair with the t-shirt to get out the moisture.

3. Apply Conditioner from mid-shaft of the hair to the ends and rinse with cool water to provide strength and elasticity. For best results, use a leave in conditioner with UV protectant.
4. Avoid high or low heat styling tools. It seems obvious that the use of high heat can easily lead to damage of the hair shaft and it is best to avoid these settings. Low heat settings are deceptively dangerous. They can be just as damaging

because they require multiple passes to achieve the same results as a single pass with high heat. If you plan on using styling tools, keep them on medium for best results.
5. Sleep on a silk pillowcase to decrease breakage while tossing and turning overnight.
6. Your Stylist is your best friend....Regular hair cuts to trim any split ends should be done every 6-8 weeks, even when growing out your hair.
